Should undocumented immigrants be allowed to live in the U.S. without fear of getting deported?2/15/2017 Today there are over 11 million undocumented immigrants currently living in the United States. Undocumented immigrants should not be allowed to live here without fear of getting deported. They have been causing the U.S. many problems for lots of years now, and we need to put an end to it.
Researches have found that illegal and undocumented immigrants cause the U.S. many problems. “One of the biggest problems that harm Americans is lost jobs” (Roussey par. 4). Since around 11 million undocumented immigrants live in the U.S., many of them are taking up low paying jobs that other citizens such as citizens who do not have a degree and are looking to take up a job living in the U.S. legally could be having. This could leave many lower class citizens such as African Americans without jobs, leaving them to roam the streets and get into drug/gang activity. If undocumented immigrants were to be deported, it would allow for American citizens to have all these jobs the undocumented aliens are taking up. Even though it may seem like undocumented immigrants are trying to be productive by getting jobs, they are still very violent and commit crimes frequently. “ICE (Immigrations and Customs Enforcement) estimates that approximately 900,000 arrests of aliens for crimes occur every year” (Lind par. 11). All these arrests are requiring more border patrol and law enforcement to be hired, costing U.S. citizens tax dollars. For citizens living near the border, crimes committed by undocumented immigrants can directly effect and pose a threat to them and their families. Many undocumented immigrants want to resist arrest from the police and/or border patrol to prevent being deported back to their home country. They may carry a gun to use if they need to fight off authorities. If these guns are used in the wrong way, they could be used to harm U.S. citizens living near the border. Allowing undocumented immigrants to stay in the U.S. is making the U.S. poorer. By making them citizens and allowing them to come into our country, we are basically “importing poverty” (Krogstad et al. par. 6). Many undocumented immigrants are poor and uneducated, making them only able to take up low paying jobs. If these undocumented immigrants were to come here legally, they would be able to find a chance at an education, where they can get a higher paying job, and overall strengthening our economy. Overall, undocumented immigrants are not worth it. They only cause negative things to happen. They take our jobs, commit crimes, cause us to pay more tax dollars, bring poverty to our country, and are just a general threat to U.S. citizens. The number of undocumented immigrants is growing every day, so tell me: do you really want these people living in your country? Works Cited Krogstad, Passel, Cohn. Many conservatives are against “harboring” illegal immigrants that currently reside in the United States. Besides America being a “country of freedom” we seem to be quite divided on the definition of the word freedom. In this essay, the writer talks about how illegal immigrants are stealing lower paying jobs, committing violent crimes and costing more than they are worth. Well, how would you feel if you were in their position? Wouldn’t in their position? Keep your family safe?
